In operation, the ITW Butterfly Switch’s contact blades flex like a butterfly’s wings to actuate the spring held blades that operate with a positive “snap” and a corresponding linear wiping action at each contact point.  The result is simultaneous opening and closing without contact welding.

Butterfly Double-Break switching can break high inductive loads on DC current applications.  Two contact breaks in series rapidly increase current resistance and current interrupting capacity.  By using a coiled extension spring, Butterfly Double-Break Switches increase both electrical capacity and mechanical life.
